Chris’s Picks 2025 volume 2
I didn’t plan it this way, but volume 2 is already ready to be shared. The pace at which new music is released these days can be overwhelming, but I’m here to sift through those new releases and pick out the best tunes.
Volume 2 of 2025 focused mainly on new singles releases this year, but a handful of songs carry over from releases I didn’t get to last year. Like I said, the amount of music released every week is simply a lot, and it’s basically a full time job keeping up with it all.
Let’s hit some highlights in this playlist by starting at the top with Viagra Boys. I’ve been a huge fan of this band since they released “Sports” as a single from their 2018 album Street Worms, and I was lucky to see them open up for Queens of the Stone Age in Denver. “Man Made of Meat” is allegedly something they wrote during that U.S. tour, and this jam has hilarious lyrics that harp on everything from Chandler Bing to OnlyFans. Clothes and food and drugs for free, indeed.
Lambrini Girls return for another appearance on Chris’s Picks while we also add the B-side to Superchunk’s “Fire in the Western World” cover with Quivers doing a Yo La Tengo tune. Other highlights include Cindy Lee guesting on a Panda Bear track, new music from Bartees Strange, Craig Finn’s latest single ahead of his upcoming solo album, as well as an excellent non-album release by The Jesus Lizard.
There’s also a handful of covers by English Teacher(LCD Soundsystem), Kiwi Jr. (Guided By Voices), Water From Your Eyes (Third Eye Blind), and Dehd (Pixies) that are all great in their own way. Finally, Chris’s Picks 2025 volume 2 culminates with some buzz worthy singles from Cola, This Is Lorelei, and Black Ends before wrapping up with “The World Doesn’t Need Another Band.”
